Ultraformer 4 MPT: our new ultrasound lifting device
FGF medical now has an Ultraformer 4 MPT device from the South Korean company Classys. It is used for SMAS lifting with focused ultrasound: energy is collected at a point at a given depth under the skin and heats the tissue without affecting the surface layer of the skin.
How the method works
The SMAS, the superficial musculoaponeurotic system, is the supporting layer of the face that lies deeper than the skin and subcutaneous tissue. The method is called HIFU: this is the English abbreviation for high-intensity focused ultrasound. The ultrasound waves converge at a point where the tissue is heated to approximately 60–70 °C. This creates small zones of thermal influence with a volume of about 1 mm³, and the tissue between them remains untouched. In response, the collagen fibers contract and the production of new collagen begins, so the effect usually develops gradually.
Device capabilities
MPT stands for Micro-Pulsed Technology. In normal mode, the device supplies energy at points; in MP mode, it warms up the entire area and, according to the manufacturer, works 2.5 times faster. Facial cartridges focus ultrasound at a depth of 1.5; 2.0; 3.0 and 4.5 mm: from dermis to SMAS level. There is also a Booster attachment with circular energy supply. The doctor selects the depth, mode and number of lines for each zone.
How the procedure works and what happens after it
The procedure may be moderately painful, most severely around the eyes and under the lower jaw. The doctor will discuss the method of pain relief in advance. After the procedure, redness is possible, which usually goes away within a few days, swelling for up to two weeks, and less often bruising.
Who is suitable and who is not
The method is designed for a slight to moderate decrease in skin elasticity. With severe sagging and a body mass index above 30, the results in the studies were worse.
Contraindications and restrictions:
- Pregnancy
- Active infection, open wounds, cystic acne in the treated area
- Metal implants in the affected area require caution: the doctor will assess the risk during consultation
